Kris Cheyne

Kris Cheyne joined Kirin Farm as a graduate of St Andrews College with a major in Equine Business, relocated from Northern Virginia to start teaching and riding for Kirin. He eventually took over the business from its then owner Sandy Longan in January of 2007. Kris is now the owner, president, and head trainer of Kirin Farm, Inc.

Kris is dedicated to producing top quality riders, horses, and partnerships between horse and rider while in the show ring. Kris has ridden and shown horses for the farm; showing sales horses, green horses, and client’s horses. He currently manages the A show program for clients and boarders, the local/unrated show program, as well as oversees the other instructors who teach the farm’s riding school.

Kris’s focus is on hunter, jumpers, equitation: with both JR and and amateur riders competitive in nearly all rings. He has riders successfully showing in Pony Hunters, Pony Medal, Children hunters, Jr Hunters, ASPCA, Hunt Seat Medal, Children’s and Jr Jumpers, A/O hunters, as well as the Grand Prix ring. He has coached and qualified riders for all Medal and National Finals as well as acting as Chef d’equipe for multiple jumper finals.

Kris is extremely active in USEF and USHJA, is in USEF Judges Mentor Program, and currently sits on the Zone 7 Hunter Committee, USHJA Young Professionals Committee, and USHJA JR Hunter Task Force.
